Roses are fantastic for decorating your home and for spoiling somebody special. Roses can also be used to make various delicacies including a number of delicious alcoholic beverages. Here’s how to use rose petals to make some exceptional drinks.
Rose Liqueur
You will need:
- 1 ½ cups fresh rose petals (you’ll need a highly fragrant variety)
- 1 ½ cups vodka (80/proof)
- ½ cup sugar syrup
Method:
- Make sure that the rose petals are clean before you begin.
- Steep the petals in vodka for 2 – 3 weeks.
- Strain and squeeze the juices out of the petals
- Add the sugar syrup and allow to mature for about 1 week.
- If you like, you can add orange or lemon peel, cardamom, raspberries, pears, apples, or even peaches.
- If you don’t know how to make sugar syrup, it’s really easy. Simply mix two parts sugar with one part water. Boil and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool before using in the rose liqueur recipe.
Brandy Rose Wine
You will need:
- ½ lb red rose petals
- 1 pint hot water
- 1 lb sugar
- ½ pint brandy
Method:
- Mix the rose petals with the hot water and squeeze hem through a fine sieve.
- Add petals until the solution reaches a red colour.
- Stir in the sugar and brandy.
- Bottle your delicious beverage and enjoy.
Both of these drinks are delicious all on their own or you can use them in different dishes. The liqueur, for example, can be used to make a cup of coffee even more delicious. You could even top some ice cream with this liqueur if you like. Dessert will be even more memorable the next time you host friends and family for dinner.
