If you want to wrap your Christmas gift in a special homemade gift box, you can make one in just a few minutes. You will also only need a few basic items and, once you make your first box, you’ll never go back to buying them again!
You will need:
- 29cm x 29cm cardboard (colour of your choice)
- 30.5cm x 30.5cm cardboard (colour of your choice)
- Scissors
- Accessories for decorating your box
Method:
- The sizes mentioned above will form a 10cm x 10cm x 5cm box. If you make a larger or smaller box, make sure that you keep the size ratio the same in order to ensure that the lid fits.
- Choose festive colours for your base and lid. You can use the same colour or two different colours.
- Start with the smaller piece of cardboard to make the box.
- Crease the midpoints of each side of your first square.
- Fold each of the four corners into the middle and use these creases as your guidelines.
- Now fold each side of your newly formed square over to the new midpoint and press down firmly on the edges before unfolding everything.
- Place the square in front of you with one corner pointing to the top of your table, one to the bottom, and one to each side. Cut two slits along the two opposite sides (left and right). Make sure that they are even and directly opposite one another. Make sure that you have a perfect square in the middle when you’re done cutting. You might want to make markings before cutting to ensure that each slit is the same length and evenly spaced apart.
- Leave the cut ends unfolded while you fold the other two corners in.
- Fold over the four little flaps over the folded sides and release
- Raise the two firmly folded ends and allow the little flaps to line the other two sides of the box.
- Now fold the remaining two large sides over these flaps to complete your box shape
- Use the same method for the other piece to make the lid.
- Now you can decorate your box on the sides and/or on the lid. Use stencils and paint, markers, spray paint, glitter, or anything you fancy! You can even add a ribbon if you like!
