Limoncello is an Italian liqueur that can be enjoyed in many different ways. If you enjoy that sweet lemon taste, then this is a drink you simply must try! Traditionally, this drink is to be enjoyed well chilled and neat. The glass should also be chilled and you should not add any ice since this will dilute the flavour.
If you prefer a milder approach when consuming alcoholic beverages, then you should consider adding one ounce of Limoncello to a tall glass and top it off with water, iced tea (unsweetened), lemonade, club soda, sparkling water, cola, tropical fruit punch, or cranberry juice. If you want to serve this drink to your guests, you can decorate the glass with sugar around the rim and pop a lemon slice on the side of the glass too. Don’t forget the straw and umbrella!
To make a Bacio del Limone, you need just 4 ounces of sparkling wine, 1 ounce of Limoncello, crushed ice, and about 6 raspberries, blackberries, or currants (or a combination of the three). Place one spoon of crushed ice in a glass (fluted glass preferably) and then add the berries. Mix your sparkling wine and Limoncello in a separate glass (stir only) and pour over the ice and berries.
Limoncello Sunrise requires 1 ounce of Limoncello, 3 ounces of fresh orange juice, and a splash of grenadine. Add the Limoncello and orange juice to a tall glass of ice and stir. Add the grenadine and serve. Do not stir the grenadine! It will settle and create a wonderful visual effect. Garnish this drink with an orange slice for an even better presentation.
The Lemon Highlander calls for an ounce of Scotch, ½ an ounce of Drambuie, and ½ an ounce of Limoncello. Build this drink in a rocks glass over ice and give it a stir. Serve with a twist of lemon.
