When you think of wine, it’s easy to generalise and box it into a handful of categories. We generally think of wine as either red, white, rosé, or sparkling. However, there’s so much to it than that. There are also sweet wines, dessert wines, and wine-based beverages. Sangria is a popular wine-based drink and there are several great recipes out there. Not only is this drink lighter than regular wine, but it’s also really refreshing and perfect for warm weather!
Ingredients:

  • 750ml red wine (preferably Spanish wine)
  • 240ml fresh orange juice
  • ½ pineapple (chopped)
  • 1 orange (sliced thinly into rounds and then cut in half)
  • ½ pear (cut into cubes)

Method:

  • Start by cleaning, washing, and preparing all of your fruit.
  • Place all of the fruit together in a pitcher.
  • Add the orange juice and wine and stir properly.
  • Place the pitcher in the fridge for four to six hours.
  • Serve in wine glasses with or without the fruit.
  • Don’t forget to garnish with a half slice of orange!

Remember that this drink is best served ice cold so, if you plan on keeping the pitcher on the table or outside where you’re entertaining guests, make sure that you place it in an ice bucket or bowl. If you add ice to your glass, it will water it down just as ice does any other drink and this can affect the flavour. Once you have made your batch of Sangria, it’s important to consume it within two days. While the wine won’t spoil easily, the fruit and orange juice don’t have an extended shelf life.
So, even if you’re not a huge fan of wine, this drink is definitely worth a try! If you received a wine hamper and you don’t know what to do with that bottle of red, here’s the perfect solution! Don’t let a good bottle go to waste – make your very own Sangria and wow your guests at the same time!
