Whisky is a popular drink both straight up and as a cocktail and shot ingredient. It’s really versatile and gives any mixed drink quite a kick. That said, whisky is not favoured by all drinkers. In fact, those with a bit of a sweeter palate might not find it completely to their liking. However, before you rule it out, it’s good to try some of these shots first! You never know what might just tickle your fancy! For those who already love whisky, these are some shot recipes that you should definitely try and master so that you can serve them to your guests.
Whisky Cherry Coke
This is a really simple shot and it’s not as high in alcohol content as many other shots. Simply blend 1 ounce of whisky and half an ounce of grenadine syrup in a shaker with ice. Strain into your shot glass and top off with some coke and bottoms up!
Vegas Bomb
Pour half an ounce of whisky and half an ounce of butterscotch liqueur into a shot glass. Fill a whisky glass with Red Bull to the point that the shot glass can be placed inside without letting the two mix. Down the shot (you might need more than one gulp!) all at once!
Alabama Slammer
This is quite a well-known one but, just because you’ve ordered it at your local bar, it doesn’t mean that you know how it’s made. Pour equal parts of whisky, almond liqueur, amaretto, orange juice, and crème de novaux into an ice shaker. Shake just a few times to mix it all up and strain into shot glasses.
McIntosh Apple
To make this delicious shot, you need to mix 1 ounce of whisky with an ounce of sour apple liqueur, a dash of 7-up (or similar soda), and some cranberry juice. Pour all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice and give it a good shake before straining into shot glasses.
Remember – whenever you shake your shots up with some ice, you should always hurry it up. The idea is to chill the alcohol but don’t give the ice a chance to melt or you will water down your shots! In addition, you need to take care and strain them. Even the smallest ice chip can be quite dangerous when swallowed by an unsuspecting guest!
