While picnics are simple, they are also wonderfully romantic. That said, the weather might not always feel like cooperating when you wish to spend some time outdoors. Rain, wind, and cold weather can really disrupt your plans and completely throw off the mood.
In the rainy season or in the middle of winter, you might think that picnics aren’t possible. The truth is that you can still enjoy a picnic regardless of the weather. How? Well, you can host an indoor picnic instead! In some cases, this kind of picnic is even more romantic than one in a park or on the beach because you have the house to yourselves and all the privacy in the world.
To set the mood just right, you should set up the picnic just as you would if you were outside. Pack your basket full of delicious food and drinks as well as all the usual supplies to go with it.
Set up your picnic in front of a roaring fire or near some kind of heat source. Place your blanket on the floor and feel free to add some scatter cushions for extra comfort. Set candles around the room as your source of light. If you are sitting beside the fire, you might still need some extra light in the corners of the room. If you don’t have a fireplace and you are using another heat source, then set up extra candles to provide enough light.
When choosing the food and drinks to pack in your picnic basket, think of your date’s personal favourites. Do they enjoy a particular type of meat, a specific snack, or a certain bottle of wine? Including their favourites will not only impress them, but it will also show them how much you care, which adds to that romantic atmosphere.
Picnics outdoors usually make the most of the sounds of nature. If you plan a seaside picnic, the waves of the nearby ocean will set the mood and help you relax. When you plan an indoor picnic, the outdoor sounds won’t have much effect. So, for this reason, you should select some soft, relaxing, background music. It will eliminate that utter silence while you’re eating and it will also help create a romantic mood.
Remember, if you are planning on serving wine, you should take the time to pair the appropriate foods with that bottle. For example, some wines are best served with white meat while others are great with desserts. Do a full meal plan before making your wine selection.
